Academic Advising at NSO

Academic Advising @ NSO

Welcome to Texas State, class of 2023!

We are very excited to meet with you at New Student Orientation (NSO). PACE Academic Advisors have partnered with academic colleges and campus resources to make sure student success begins as soon as students step onto campus. During orientation, our advisors will meet with students one-on-one to recommend accurate fall courses based on all 97 bachelor's degrees that Texas State University offers.

Important Tasks to Complete Prior to Attending NSO

To prepare for your arrival, it is important that you complete the following tasks as soon as possible. Our ability to pre-register you for appropriate courses prior to your NSO session is dependent on the information you provide us.

Task One: Submit Your Transcripts

Complete this task at any point before your NSO date. The sooner that you complete this task, the more accurate our records will be for advising.

Whether you're finishing high school or are attending classes at another university or community college, we'll need an official transcript showing your final grades. Once you've completed course work, submit an official copy of your transcript to:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 429 N. Guadalupe Street, San Marcos, TX 78666.

Task Two: Update Your Major

Complete this task at any point before May 31.

All updates to your curriculum will take place during New Student Orientation (NSO). We highly encourage incoming students to explore potential major options now and be prepared to update your academic advisor at NSO.

Task Three: Complete Your Pending & In-Progress Credit Form (PIPCC)

Download a copy of the PACE PIPCC form to complete at home, and bring your completed copy to your NSO.

The PACE PIPCC form is your way to report what incoming credit you have. Possible pending credit you need to report: Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Credit, International Baccalaureate (IB), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), military, planned summer 2019 coursework, etc.

With this information, we can ensure that we advise you for the most appropriate coursework.

  • Yes. Students have the ability to add and drop courses to their schedule after they complete advising at NSO. However, it is strongly recommended that students contact an academic advisor before making any adjustments to their course schedule as even minimal adjustments can negatively impact student's degree progression and/or financial aid eligibility.

  • No. Students will meet with the first available advisor during NSO.
