New Bobcat Advising

Embarking on your journey to Texas State will be an exciting new chapter filled with new experiences and opportunities. To ensure you make a seamless transition to the university, we've outlined a process to get you Advising and Enrollment Ready. On this page, you'll find the required action steps to take to enroll in your first semester.

Put simply: To become Advising and Enrollment Ready, you must sign up for New Student Orientation (NSO), submit your Housing contract or exemptions, and submit TSI scores or exemptions.

Step Two Submit Your Housing Contract

Living on campus is required for most first-year students. Housing and Residential Life has more information on housing requirements and exemptions.

Step Three Submit Your TSI Scores or Exemptions

We use your Texas Success Initiative scores or exemption materials to determine course placement.

Complete the New Bobcat Advising Worksheet

Now that you are Advising and Enrollment Ready, your next step is to work on getting enrolled! The New Bobcat Advising Worksheet will become available in your TXST Admission Status Portal within 24 hours after becoming Advising and Enrollment Ready.

In this worksheet, you will:

  • Choose your major and area of study
  • Report any college credit you have completed (AP, IB, dual credit, etc.)
  • Submit test scores like SAT and ACT scores
  • Tell us about considerations we should take when helping you build your schedule, like Bobcat Marching Band, ROTC, Strutters, etc.

Get Advised and Enrolled

After you have submitted your New Bobcat Advising Worksheet, First-Year Advising will use the information you provided to:

  • Create a course plan for your first semester at TXST.
  • Enroll you in courses for your first semester based on the information received by TXST. (Don't worry; you can modify course times and get help and guidance from our team.)

Once we have advised and enrolled in your courses, we will send you an email to your Texas State email with details on how to access your course plan, review your enrolled courses, and how you can make informed decisions on how to modify your schedule.

Note: Enrollment for new students will begin the week of April 29 and be processed in the order worksheets are received. The time you will be enrolled will vary, but will happen before your NSO session. We appreciate your patience.

Your Questions, Answered

  • To become Advising and Enrollment Ready, you must sign up for New Student Orientation (NSO), submit your Housing contract or exemptions, and submit TSI scores or exemptions

Note: You must submit scores or proof of exemption to complete the TSI requirement. If you submit scores, they do not need to be passing scores. If your scores are below the minimum requirement, you will be enrolled in appropriate developmental education courses.

  • No. After we receive your New Bobcat Advising Worksheet, we will enroll you in courses, lift your New Student Advising hold, and email you with your advising plan and registration resources.

At that time, you can choose to modify your schedule with the advising plan our First-Year Advisor created for you as a guide.

First-Year Advisors will be available before, during, and after New Student Orientation to answer questions about your course recommendations via our First-Year Quick Help Desk.

  • First-Year Advising will begin registering students who are Advising & Enrollment Ready and have submitted their New Bobcat Advising Worksheet on April 29. The time you will be enrolled will vary, but will happen before your NSO session. We appreciate your patience.

  • We highly encourage you to become Advising & Enrollment Ready and complete your New Bobcat Advising Worksheet as soon as possible to secure your first semester courses.

If you are not advised by your in-person NSO date, our First-Year Advising team will advise you for courses when you are on campus for NSO.

  • Yes. New Student Orientation is a required and important component of your enrollment at Texas State. At NSO, you are introduced to Texas State's vibrant community, learn about the support and resources you can access as a student, and connect with other new Bobcats!

Failure to attend NSO will result in a hold on your account. If you were already advised and enrolled in courses, you will be dropped from these courses and will not be allowed to reenroll until you attend an NSO session.

  • We're here to help! Once we process your New Bobcat Advising Worksheet and enroll you in courses, we will email you instructions on connecting with a member of our First-Year Advising team to talk about your course recommendations.

  • If you have questions about the course recommendations First-Year Advising provided, contact our office.

If you have registration-related questions or are having issues registering for courses, please contact the TXST One Stop.
